GENEVA CHRISTMAS MARKET ITINERARY

5 days and 4 nights itinerary exploring the Geneva Christmas markets


Jet D'Eau


Day 1


  • Purchase and activate your Geneva City Pass in advance so you can take advantage of the free public transport and other discounts available - find more information here

  • 12pm - arrive in Geneva airport and catch the local bus or train to your hotel (we stayed at Adina Aparthotel and got bus number 23 which dropped us right outside)

  • 2pm - check into your hotel and get unpacked

  • 2:30pm - take the tram into the centre of Geneva (if staying outside the centre (tram 14 or 18 from Adina Aparthotel))

  • 3:15pm - explore the Christmas markets with views of the Jet d'Eau

  • 6pm - have a traditional fondue dinner at Auberge de Savièse (make sure to book if weekend as it is very popular)


Day 2


  • 8am - take the tram to stop Cornavin and walk to the meeting point of Swisstours

  • 8:50am - join Swisstours for a guided excursion to the French town of Annecy (remember your passport!). Your excursion will include your transfers and a guided tour of Annecy before you will have some free time to explore

  • 2pm - do some Geneva sightseeing and visit the Jet d'Eau up close, the old town, the world's longest bench and the botanical garden

  • 4:35pm - use your Geneva City Pass to enjoy a 50 minute sightseeing cruise. You can purchase snacks and drinks on board

  • 7pm - have dinner at Inglewood burgers




Day 3


  • 11am - have a lazy morning and then join a free walking tour to learn about the history and the best spots to visit in Geneva

  • 2pm - spend the early afternoon exploring and sampling the food at the Christmas markets

  • 7pm - enjoy some Italian food at Vino Olio Caffe


Day 4


  • 10am - take the train to the picturesque town of Montreux

  • 11:30am - explore Montreux and the beautiful scenery and vast Christmas markets. Don't forget to visit the Freddie Mercury monument. You will find some delicious food and lots of high quality souvenirs to take home or for gifts

  • 3pm - take the train back to Geneva and if you have time stop at the popular town in between Geneva and Montreux, Lausanne

  • 5pm - head to Restaurant Edelweiss and join their fondue cooking class. You can extend your class and have dinner afterwards too in their ski lodge style restaurant




Day 5


  • 10am - purchase a Choco pass from the tourist office (30CHF for adults and 6CHF for children) and visit 8 chocolate shops around the city and sample the finest Swiss chocolates

  • 1pm - finish your sightseeing of Geneva and visit Bastions park, Carouge (authentic part of the old town) and St Pierre Cathedral tower (7CHF entry)

  • 2pm - pick up your final souvenirs at the Geneva Christmas markets before heading home
